Peace, Love, & Leafy Dreams
A Little Update From Our Farm(s) to Yours
To say that things are going at full speed in Nick and I’s life is a beautiful disaster of an understatement. 🤓 It has been, all things considered, a beautifully wild summer and now it’s not only back to business… its bring on more business, new dreams, new challenges, another perspective, and another fresh start.. and Nick and I are so excited and only the tiniest bit terrified!
The biggest lesson we have learned in the fourteen months we have been running Leafy Dreams is that having an hour between our farm and our home just doesn’t work. We will get up at two in the morning and drive the hour down to the farm if there is an issue that needs our immediate attention, we will stay up all night, for multiple nights if our schedules don’t allow for us to drive down on a daily basis, whatever it takes..
But it takes a tole.
We knew from day one that there would be compromises, sacrifes, long nights, stupid fights, and exhaustion. It is the very best kind of exhaustion, and everything else has been well worth it.
But, the hour drive has to go and finally we can see the light, even if we do have a very long way to go! Just knowing the process has started is deep breath of fresh air!
But let’s just call a duck a duck, who could really be anything but excited with all that beautiful basil?
Basil that is going to be SO GOOD with these sundried tomatoes we made ☺️
That too, will have to wait. I have been spending as much time as possible prepping fresh things for the cold winter nights when I am extremely likely to to go whinning to Nick about how badly I miss garden fresh veggies. Thank goodness we will still have all the beautiful leafy greens coming out of our farm all winter long (so when you’re really missing those freshly picked garden salads… you know who to call 😏).
Our farm is thriving as we hold on to the last bits of warm weather to gather every last garden treasure we can!
Side note: if you haven’t made pop-pops, popularly known as poppers, all summer long, you’re missing out, but don’t worry.. as soon as I figure out I will post the recipe I use on our “Eats, Treats, & More” page!
We have 75% of the farm filled with perfect, new transplants and will be planting the seeds for the remaining towers within the next week! It is nothing short of spectacular seeing Leafy filled to the brim with our amazing greens again! Making our regular deliveries, attending farmers markets and just bringing our salad blends more and more into the community! We even managed to get some of our greens to a pretty spectacular event, put on by a pretty spectacular Iowa brewery!
Everything we are working on right now is to get our greens to as many people as possible. We love seeing faces light up when they see or even better, taste, our greens for the first time! They really are amazing and I truly am not just saying that to toot our horn. They are truly spectacular. Don’t take my word for it, try it for yourself some time and if you hate it, give me a call. I’ll make sure we get you a blend more to your liking! We have something for even the most stubborn salad eaters, and trust me I know picky eaters.. you should have met my bestie ten years ago. 🫣
SO, what comes first on our “Dreamy list of Dreams”
Purchase land ✔️
Purchase little shed to transform into tiny home while we build the rest of our project ✔️
Start cleaning up the land for farm and tiny home ✔️
Have little shed delivered to property
Run ALL utilities
So we have a ways to go, a very long ways to go actually, but things are definitely looking up for our little leafy dream!
As we dive into unknown territory (again) we are feeling all the feels (again) but more than anything, we are just so excited to get this new chapter in our story started and share it with you while we do! Without spoiling ALL the fun, I will say this. Our little farm is bout to become something truly special for our family and our community and we hope you all have as much fun watching us sort our way through the next several months as we plan to doing it.
It really is amazing what you can talk yourself into when you have someone who believes in you so fiercely holding your hand and taking whatever crazy turn life takes with you. Belief is one thing Nick and I have for each other in spades. Belief in each other and belief in our leafy dream.
Because I don’t say it enough:
To my Nicky,
Thank you for being my person in this life, thank you for holding my hand, making me laugh, making me feel safe, and for loving me the way you do. I love you, and I am so thankful that you are the person I get to dream with.
More to come very, very soon!
With so much love and excitement for the future,
Stay wild & Stay Leafy
Amy
